Games for a retirement party are something that will make your celebration much more enjoyable. What is a party without any games?

The idea for this kind of party is always to make a tribute to the retiree and to remember both the good professional and personal qualities of the former employee and to remember those good and funny times spent with him. A few well-chosen retirement party jokes won't hurt!

It's a good idea to use photos of the person who is leaving the company. Hang them on the walls or on the doors to decorate the space where the party is going to take place.

Another fabulous idea for your themed party would be to hang posters or photos of the places where the former employee of the company wants to go on holiday or of his favourite soccer, American football player, etc. or sports team. Or put up some photos taken of the others employees with him at work, at a work outing, etc.

Roast

You can organize a roast. This is one of the 'edgy' retirement party games that relies on the sense of humor of the person who's leaving. A roast is where people volunteer to speak about the person, usually in derogatory terms, but all in good fun. The idea is to use retirement party humor and poke fun at the person who's leaving, "send them up".

A roast is always a little risky because there's a chance that the person being roasted will be offended by some of the remarks. You should choose the speakers carefully. You don't want to select people who had a grudge against the person retiring who might use this opportunity to stick the knife in. Keep it light.

Trivia

One of the retirement party games could be a trivia about the professional and personal qualities of the retiring employee. The guest of honor could be the quizmaster, or just confirm whether answers are correct. You can also add questions to the quiz about the company itself.

Video testimonial or roast

Another of many retirement party game ideas would be that each of the people invited to the party spend two minutes in a side room talking to the camera about the colleague who's taking retirement. This can be done in two ways: either as a genuine, friendly send-off, or as a video roast.

If you opt to do a video roast, be sure that each person ends their segment with a friendly smile and a thumbs-up to show that it's really just a joke.

Limit each person's screen time to a couple of sentences, so it doesn't get too long. Put the video together and show it during the party for maximum effect!

You're the boss!

Whether the retiring employee was a director or not, it is probably a good idea in these retirement party games and activities to let the person leaving the company be the boss of the party and involve them in a few of the organization details.

Let them choose what music to listen to, what cocktails or wine to serve, select a special treat for the buffet, etc. Keep the surprises away from them, though!

We heartily recommend a Magic Wand. This is a game we feature in kids' birthday parties, but it will work just as well for an adult. Create or buy a magic wand and let the retiree have all their wishes come true during the party. Ask them to wave the wand and make a wish, and their soon-to-be-former colleagues will make it happen if at all possible. You'll be surprised how much people enjoy this!
