Retirement Party Games and Ideas. Former Employees Will Congratulate You.
Retirement party games are something that will make your retirement parties much more enjoyable. What is a party without any games?
You don't want to play Nintendo Wii video games though you still could in this kind of parties (imagine how funny it would be playing Second Life and having the former employee who is retiring sending Curriculum Vitaes or resumes again to get a job).
The idea for this kind of party is always to make a tribute and to remember both the good professional and personal qualities of the former employee and to remember those good and funny times spent with him. So it will be a good idea if you use photos of the person who is leaving the company hanged on the walls or on the doors to decorate the space where the party is going to take place. Another fabulous idea for having your themed decorated party would be to hang posters or photos of the places where the former employee of the company wants to go on holiday or of his favourite soccer, American football player, etc. or sport team or hang some photos taken of the others employees with him at work, at some work outing, etc.
In this kind of parties the guests will never embarrass or somehow hint without much sensitivity any strange habits or qualities of the person who the retirement party is made for. You may do a little bit of this with some sense of humor. For example. One of the retirement party games could be a trivia about profesional and some little personal qualities of the former employee and you may ask: how many cigarettes did he/she used to smoke during lunch break? After each question the leaving employee may confirm if that is right. It could be a good idea if you let the person leaving the company know beforehand that these kind of questions are going to be asked so that he approves and make sure that he/she won't feel too embarrassed about it.
So the first idea for fun retirement party games would be to have and create a quiz or trivia where a spokesperson asks questions about some good qualites, some funny habits, some funny situations lived with the former employee, etc. You can as well add questions to the quiz about the company itself.
Alternative. Prepare a quiz and ask the person leaving the company the questions about company-related details, workers, work-colleagues, etc. So all the questions must be answered by the person leaving the company.
Another of many retirement party game ideas would be that each of the people invited to the party would say something that they liked about the leaving employee or explain some funny or memorable situation lived at work with the former employee.
The people invited to the party could play the game If I were but just using the expression "if I were+ the name of the person leaving the company I would ..." and the rest have to guess thinking of what the person leaving the company would do just out of how well they know him/her. For example: If I were the person leaving the company I would go on holidays to ..., I would have this drink in a bar: ... You can keep the same person saying "If I were ..." or each time somebody makes a guess the person that guessed then has to say "If i were + the name of the person leaving the company I would ..." Every time a person makes a guess the person who is leaving the company has to confirm if what they said about him matches to what he/she would do in that case and if not what he/she would do in that situation.
Whether the former employee was a director or not it is probably a good idea in these retirement party games and activities to let the person leaving the company be the boss of the party for a little bit. So let him/her choose what music to listen to. It could be really fun if you play the favorite songs or music groups of the former employee and the rest of the people has to dance and sing the songs. If it is a balad the guests of the party dance in pairs and if it a faster pace song people may dance forming a circle or by themselves. The more people dancing and singing the songs, the more you will encourage the former employee to dance and sing as well.
With the favorites songs of the person leaving the company you could as well go for a singing-karaoke contest among all the guests of the party. So you will need beforehand to know what songs does he/she likes the most and have the rest of the people listen or learn them beforehand.
