How to prepare it and make it fun?

You could decide who is the first person getting the gifts playing cards, dice, musical chairs, making a trivia, etc. as seen in my Party Gift Exchange Games page. The person who wins the game gets the gift first or the most valuable one.

Because you are meant to play Christmas Party Gift Exchange Games specially in the Christmas season it would be ideal if you could have in the room the Christmas tree already set up. In the Christmas tree which doesn't necessarily need to be real (it can be a plastic one) you could hang on the branches little gifts by strings and have the guests of the party to pick randomly the gifts from there. Given that we are playing Christmas Party Gift Exchange Games and not Father-Christmas-Party Thanksgiving Day :-), it will be better if you make each guest bring his own christmas gift to exchange. You can let them know beforehand that they have to be small and light in order to be hanged from the Christmas tree or as well they can be placed on the base or around the Christmas tree.

On the other hand you could as well disguise yourself as Father Christmas, put the presents in a big bag or make your guests put their gifts in your big bag, mix them up and have the guests pick up ramdonly gifts from your bag.

You could hand out the gifts playing musical chairs but instead of playing any music just play Christmas carols. Keep passing on gifts and when the music stops the person with the gift in his/her hand gets it. Variation. You could make this game even more funny if instead of playing music you make somebody sing Christmas Carols and he stops singing from time to time so that the rest can get the gifts. Just make sure that the person who is singing gets one of the best gifts of all to pay for his/her effort.

As well you could do a Christmas Carols competition. The person who can remember the lyrics of more christmas carols gets first or the most valuable gift.

A Christmas Carols karaoke competition would be ideal. The person who sings better or gets more votes for his/her singing performance gets the gift first or gets the most valuable gifts.

Christmas Trivia Exchange Game Prepare a trivia all about Christmas. You can get info from Wikipedia for example and the person or team who gets the most answers right wins the game and gets the gift or the most valuable gift first.
